3 days until The Vitruvian

Well, it’s nearly time for my “A” race of the season, so what am I expecting from the race? I’m not going to set individual time goals or even a total time as the weather is meant to be pretty poor on Saturday – gusting winds and heavy showers. I had hoped to go about 10 minutes quicker than I did at the Weymouth Middle Distance race earlier in the year, but now I’m not so sure. I will set myself some personal goals, but will probably keep them close to my chest. There will be plenty of club mates racing and a few guys supporting and helping out the race organisers, so it should be a great day regardless of the weather and the final time.

Training is pretty much finished now, although yesterday I ran on the treadmill, short and sharp, only 40 minutes which included 4 x 800m (on 2:45) off 4 minutes. Ankle felt good so happy with that. Swam this morning, that’s my last swim until race day, it consisted of an easy 400m warm up, 4 x (4 x 50m very fast, 50 easy kick), followed by an easy 200m cool down. I’ve got a 90 minute turbo session planned for tonight, which will be fairly easy with some efforts thrown in for good measure (10mins @ 30mile TT effort pace, 10mins @ 25m TT effort pace and 10mins @ 10mile TT pace effort).

Then it’s time to rest up until race day. But in saying that, I will do some strides on Friday and perhaps cycled a few miles of the course on Friday afternoon (dependent on the weather of course!), but that’s not really training, all the hard work has been done.

Just writing this is making me excited about race day – bring it on!
