Track day

Some of the RAF tri guys joined the RAF cycling guys down at Newport Velodrome for a cycling track day today. And keeping it simple - it was awesome! Most of the tri guys had never ridden a fixed wheel bike before (including me) and all of us had never ridden on a track before, so we were all track virgins!

The day consisted of mainly technique work in the morning and race work in the afternoon (including a 500m sprint off, which was perhaps one of the highlights of the day). The coach was great and soon instilled enough confidence in us for us to start hammering the 47 degree boards with various drills (including zig-zagging through the field at great speed - well, it felt quick to me!). The speed you could get up on the top of those boards was frightening!

Would I do it again - yes, yes, yes! There are going to be some more novice days coming up over the winter months, so get yourself down there and have some fun - you know you want to!

It really was a great day. I'd highly recommend it too!
