I think I've now got my head straight and know what I need to do to get back to full strength. Patience is key, I need to go slowly to be able to progress. Thanks to all bloggers and well-wishers who have sent their kind words of encouragement. OK, my recovery went backwards a little when my wound got infected and I had to go back onto a course of anti-biotics, but that should be cleared up in a few days.
I've spent the last few days reading lots of literature on planning, motivation and goal setting by various authors and think I now know what I need to do between now and July. I've also entered The Vitruvian in September which will be the culmination of the 2009 season for me, this is a great race and a good chance for me to be able to sign off the season on a high. Train smart all.

You can only do what you can do. Accept the hand you have been dealt and do the best you can. Recover well Young Frank and race the best you can.
Thanks Mick, I'll take your words of advice (for once!).
