My New Years swim challenge

OK, it's not much of a swim challenge to you guys who can actually swim well, but for the likes of me (a pretty poor swimmer), it's something to set my sights on for 2010. As a bit of backround, I did the swim in IM Austria '09 in 68 mins and am doing Challenge Roth in July '10 and hope to go a little quicker.

My 400m PB this year was 7 mins (ok, I did dip under 7 mins once in a sprint race by a few seconds) and at present it is about 7:40 as I've had a long time out of the pool. My goals are:

Sub 7 mins 400m by Club La Santa training camp (4 March '10)
Sub 6:45 mins by Playitas training camp (17 April '10)
Sub 65 mins IM swim in Roth (18 July '10)

I can swim 3 times a week from January (one 90 min squad session in a 50m pool and two 45 min sessions in a 25m pool) and plan to continue this up to the IM in July. I'm going to chart my progress here, so thanks in advance for any comments or advice, I need it!

Good targets. I think 68 ins for an IM swim is a little better than 'not very good' though.

Interestingly (or maybe not!), our Barca relay swimmer is targetting sub 50 mins and in a recent 30 min swim was going at sub 47 min pace! I struggle to comprehend how mortals can swim that fast.

Best of luck with your challenge.

47 min pace is on another planet! He'll set you guys up for a super quick time.

LOL! Yes he will, but I'm already feeling the pressure of having to perform, rather than just turn up and have a laugh!

No pressure Turbo, his 50 min swim followed by your 4hr50 bike and it's happy days for your runner! ;-)
