Macca's Shiv!
In line with Neilly G's recent blog posts, I thought I'd post up one of favourite bikes - Macca's Specialized Shiv. This is the one he used when winning Kona a few months ago. You all you bike geeks out there, Macca’s Shiv is built with SRAM Red components and standard style 900TT shifters rather than SRAM’s R2C shifters. McCormack’s mechanic says that Chris has a laid-back attitude about his bike and doesn’t concern himself with the details on his bike.
He rides Zipp 808 Firecrest tubulars. These brand-new race wheels got the special treatment and are covered with a custom set of red and white stickers, to match his frame, with “Chris Macca McCormack” emblazoned on them. On this rig he's got Speedplay Zero pedals with a titanium spindle. For Kona he had a single bottle holder on his frame and another between his arms, although his mechanic said he contemplated adding another behind the saddle before the race.
Macca doesn’t ride with a power meter and, in fact, doesn’t even have a standard cycling computer on his bike. He rides totally on feel, but as a multiple world champ I guess you know your limits! Train smart all!

I really love the way this bike looks at the front end. Supposedly its incredibly difficult to get fitted to in the 'standard' frame sizes, unless you get a custom made one. I wonder if Macca has a custom made one? :-)
I think Macca gets whatever he wants!!!!
Neill, I'm afraid I disagree with you ref the front end. Whilst functionally it is excellent (both aero and stiffness), aesthetically the head tube area is a real eyesore. The toptube running into the stem is a nice touch, though. This is one of the better paint jobs, where the white in the fork flows nicely through the headtube into the top tube and they haven't put the manufacturer's name on every available tube.
Mick,
I love the front end from an engineering perspective and artistically.
No speedo or power. That's the way to do it! I have never used either in races. macca said he would do the same when he last popped in for a coffee.
