It's been nearly 2 weeks since the European Long Distance Champs and I'm just about starting to feel normal again. My legs were shot for about 10 days after the race, I would try to do some easy running and they weren't having any of it! I felt ok on the bike (I've been out on my mountain bike a few times and once this week on my 'new' road bike) but running has been a struggle. And with that in mind, I'm going to go against all conventional wisdom and do a local 5km ParkRun tomorrow morning! Yes, it's going to be ugly!
Since my return to normality I've had the opportunity to reflect on the whole GB experience. Some people knock the whole GB age group triathlon scene, but for me it was an absolute honour to pull on that GB vest. I never ever thought I would have the opportunity to race for Great Britain in any capacity, so to achieve this at the age of 38 is something I will be proud of for a long time.
Now that my triathlon race season is over, I can reflect on this year and plan for next year. Overall, I have had a good season, I have PB'd in several running racing and the Weymouth middle distance triathlon, whilst playing my part in the European Long Distance Champs. For the remainder of this year and into 2012, I plan to do a lot more racing. My race schedule was pretty light this year, so I plan on doing lots of running races & duathlons, some bike races and sportives and start doing some run and bike training with some local clubs. To improve my run and bike (my favourite legs of the triathlon) I need to start training with real runners and bikers, so that's what I plan to do! Race and train smart all!
