Today I thought I'd have a change and add a bit of varierty to my training, so decided to do a 5km run race in Cardiff. It was part of the Park Run series (www.parkrun.com), which is basically a free 5km run that takes place every Saturday throughout the year and is based all over the UK (London, Leeds, Brighton, Cardiff, etc).
So where does the duathlon part come in? Well, I decided to cycle there and back. So it was a 25 minute cycle (into the wind!) to the location of the race, a quick 5km blast, and then a 25 minute cycle home. It turned out to be a really good training session and I was back home and showered ready for the day by 10:00am.
I think I'll add in a few more of these over the winter months, just to keep the variety and motivation ticking along nicely; I appreciate it will do nothing for my IM training but it is good sometimes to add in something different just to keep you fresh. And now I have a time to beat too!

Nice effort Frank. I disagree though; I reckon it will help your IM training. Too much long slow stuff can leave you stale. Some short sharp stuff raises your threshold and keeps your mind and enthusiasm sharpe. What time you hit......I know you are coming off a break so don't be shy now!
You know me I'm not shy! Sub 20, that's all I'll say at the moment, nothing for you fast guys to worry about (yet!).
