Big training day finished (yesterday) and now I’m TIRED! I did a mini race rehearsal of sorts yesterday which consisted of a 45 minute swim session, followed by a 5 hour rolling bike ride and finished off with an hour run. There was a 90 minute break between the sessions so it wasn’t quite a continuous monster session, but between sessions there was no food allowed; only a recovery drink to try to simulate what I’ll be feeling like on race day. But I can tell you; once I finished the run I was ready to devour a house! Or a horse perhaps! I was starving and could definitely feel the lack of fuel in my body in the final 30 minutes of the run. But it a good session and am pleased my coach planned it in for me, I learned a few things about refuelling on the bike and how to deal with a longer session, both mentally and physically.
I still managed my optional swim session this morning, but that was a fairly low key affair. My quads and glutes felt tired, but once in the pool it didn’t feel too bad. I’ve got a 2 hour run tomorrow followed by a 4 hour bike ride on Sunday – oh happy days! Train smart all!

Well done mate. A long old day but worth it. Makes you think about your bike nutrition doesn't it?
Yes, there's more to IM nutrition than meets the eye!
