I've done a couple of track sessions lately, and I can tell you one thing, they hurt! My little legs are not used to running fast. They've been conditioned to run at a steady pace for a long time, and this shock to the system is pretty painful.
So why am I doing some short intervals when Ironman is my focus you might ask? Well, its a similar situation to my current bike training: I plan to build some speed and power before adding the much needed endurance (for Ironman anyway) at a later stage. This is pretty experimental for me, I just hope it works, if it doesn't, it's going to be a very painful day for me in Germany in August!
The turbo trainer is still getting a hammering, it's painful stuff at the moment, but I'm starting to see a difference already. My power numbers are going up and that's great to see. Last week I did a cross country race down at Halton, that was a tough day too, a very boggy course and some real fast guys - not a good mix (for me anyway!). We've got another cross country race on Wednesday, it's a championship race so, again, lots of quick boys will be there. It's good training at least! Train smart all.
