Sprint races hurt!!!!

Yes, sprint traithlon races hurt! I did the Odiham sprint triathlon yesterday, I treated it as a hard training session and as such, I decided to train straight through it, no tapering for me!

It was a 400m swim, a 23k bike followed by a lumpy 5k run. My race went pretty well, I did the swim in a time of 6:36 (a new PB for me!), the bike was a challenging 2 lap affair (with some temporary traffic lights that I got caught at twice!!!) and the run was a little hilly for my liking. In fact I got a stitch on the run (this has never happened to me before) as I chased a club mate out of T2. This proved to be a mistake, I knew he was a much faster runner than me but I decided to go hard and see if I could keep the gap between us small. I paid for it with a stitch that almost reduced me to walking pace! I came good in the end and finished strongly. I managed to come home in 8th place, I'll take this as all my training is based around the Ironman in August, these sprints are tough, essentially you're redlining all the way round! Train smart all!

Very hard to combine sprint racing with IM training and racing. Watch you don't burn out or get injured.

Good to hear you are going so well though - are you still 'adjusting' your food intake?

The sprint races are just a bit of fun, a good blast out - the focus is still IM.

Still sticking to my own healthy eating plan, it's not rocket science, keep-it-simple-stupid seems to work for me.
