A bit of a swim challenge...........

I decided I needed a bit of a swim challenge to keep me motivated over the next few weeks and as I've got some things on just before Xmas, I decided to set myself a 12 day swim challenge. It wasn't meant to be mega mileage, just a simple challenge to get me into the pool and keep me motivated. I planned to do:

Day1: 400m
Day2: 800m
Day3: 1200m
Day4: 1600m
Day5: 2000m
Day6: 2400m
Day7: 2400m
Day8: 2000m
Day9: 1600m
Day10: 1200m
Day11: 800m
Day12: 400m

As you can see, not mega mileage, but 12 consecutive days of swimming will give my swimming a real boost before Xmas and set me up nicely for the New Year. I'll break up the swim distances into a combination of straight swimming and drills, to work on my stroke and build a little bit of speed too.Day 1 was today and it was nice and easy. It felt good to be back in the pool and that's something you don't normally hear from my mouth! Train smart guys!

Go check out www.winterswim.co.uk it's not too late to join in the challenge, it's what's keeping me motivated through to the Spring, it's just a bit of fun with swimmers from all around the world!

Day 2 and 3 completed, good drills, keeps it interesting. Certainly feels more than 1200m when you're drilling. :-)

Frank, I'm doing the Winterswim as part of my training. So I factor in the 50m Sprint required and see what I can get as a best score in one session.

Currently Ranked 75th, there are some quick guys and girls out there and I can't wait for round 2 a 100m TT.... done in 60 Secs is the Target.

Don't over do the drill as it can lead to injuries. Try and break up 100m with 50 drill 50 swim. My coach had me doing huge amounts every other day and I have to say I felt sore from DOMS for a week and lost motivation quickly.

Don't worry Mike, I'm not overdoing the drills, but they do add variety, which is good for this time of year.
