Product review: BikeFood nutrition products

I've been trialling some new nutritional products recently, namely the energy products from a UK company called BikeFood. I recently purchased two of their products, the Energy Drink Mix and the Raw Natural Energy Bars.

The Energy Drink Mix comes in 2 flavours, Orange and Berry, and both tasted great. Some energy products taste a bit too sickly sweet, but this one is just right. The Energy Drink Mix contains protein (Branched Chain Amino Acids), simple and complex carbohydrates, electrolytes and vitamins to deliver both quick and sustained energy, and aid in recovery too. And that's one of the good things about the Energy Drink Mix, due to it's make-up it can be used before, during and after your training, depending on the strength of the mixture you make. This makes it an all-in-one mix that you can use for training, racing and for recovery too!

As the name of the company suggests, this product is intended for use on the bike, but it works equally well on the run too. I've used the Energy Drink Mix whilst on my long runs (up to 2 hours) and found it delivers enough energy to keep you adequately fuelled without giving you any stomach problems.

The Raw Natural Energy Bars are the jewel in their crown in my eyes. They come in 4 different flavours, but the Mango one was my favourite. These bars are all natural, so no gluten, wheat, soya, dairy, added sugar, artificial sweeteners, flavours, cereal or other fillers - just all natural ingredients. The term 'raw' is used to describe food that has not been damaged by cooking, baking, pasteurising or otherwise heating. What does this mean? Well, it means it stays and tastes the way it was intended - natural! These bars are perfect for use on the bike, as the wrappers come off really easily (those bikers among you will know how important this is) and the bars aren't covered in any artificial sugary coating which melts in your pocket either!

BikeFood are trialling some energy gels as we speak (I hope to get some to try!), if they're anything like the energy drink and bars, I'm sure they'll be a winner - I look forward to testing them before Finland in August.

If you're after trying some new energy products, check out these guys, you won't be disappointed believe me! Train smart all!

Mmmm. Looks good Frank. I am still working on my nutrition plan so could be up for a change of brand. i went quite well on the High 5 gels at Cowman but I didn't use any energy drink - just water. How much for this pack Mr Dinky?!

Not sure exactly the prices, but they do some "bundles" which are excellent value, check out their website, might be worth trailling something now before your Ironman.
