Cardiff Parkrun

This morning I did the Cardiff ParkRun and I went into it with every intention of setting a new 5km PB. I'm in OK run shape at the moment, not fully rested but hoped I could pull it together and go sub 18 minutes and dip under my PB time of 17:57.

This morning was absolutely freezing in Cardiff! And I mean freezing! I ran without a hat and gloves (nearly everyone else decided to go the safe route and wear them) and definitely regretted not wearing gloves as my fingers were freezing all the way round. I'm not exaggerating here, when I finished the race I couldn't feel my fingers. They were painful, it wasn't just the feeling of cold, they were actually hurting!

Anyway, the bottom-line is, it was a tough run, I was just off pace for the majority of the run, but finished strong. I looked at my watch and saw a time of 17:56, a new PB by 1 second!!! However, when I got home and checked the ParkRun website, my time was rounded up to 17:57, thus no PB, I had actually equalled my PB. What's the chances of that?!?!?!

So my challenge is now is take 1 or 2 seconds off that time before the end of 2011. There are a few ParkRuns scheduled before the end of the year, so if I rest up for a day or two before the race AND don't eat my own bodyweight in Christmas treats (I can't guarantee that!) I might just do it. In saying that, I have a tough multi-terrain race next weekend, so I might only have one shot at another ParkRun before 2012. It's all part of the challenge!

As I say, I'm in fairly good shape, just need to be rested (hard to do when you're training hard!) and stay off the choccies over the Xmas break! :-)
