I did a local Park Run 5k race today as a bit of a test, just to see where I am in my training. To be honest, I haven't done any speed work for months, just LSD work in preparation for IM Regensburg in August, so wasn't expecting too much.
Although saying that, my run leg in my recent duathlon was quite strong (for me and my standard anyway), so I thought I might be able to sneak a few seconds off my PB. I did the same course back in November and did 19:18 (I have done 19:00 about 10 years ago, but that doesn't count!), so that was my target, hoping to get near 19:00 as my ultimate goal.
To cut a long story short, I went 18:24. Very pleased with that! I'm not sure where that came from, but I'll take a 50 second PB anyday of the week! Train smart all.

Fantastic result, Frank, very well done. You must be doing something right.
Yep, doing LSD that's what!
K, you think LSD makes you fast over the shorter distances?
Nice one Frank.
No, running more does though because it's weight bearing so you get muscle breakdown/growth as long as there's sufficient stimulus ie any kind of running. :-)
Usually the only way to do that without nuking yourself is LSD running though. Paula Radcliffe doesn't do that much 'fast' running relatively speaking in a 120mile week to get to a 30min 10k or a 2.15 mara. :-) Old skool works if you're not time or injury limited.
Well my recent 17:05 (accurate course) was done off zilch speed work. Well, 2 faster session only.
