University of Wales, Newport ISCA duathlon

Another weekend, another duathlon! This weekend I have the University of Wales duathlon held at the Caerleon campus near Newport. I have done this race before (about 3 or 4 years ago) so I know what to expect; it starts with a very hilly 4km run, followed by an undulating 18km bike leg and finished off with the same 4km hilly run. It's actually quite a tough race, you might think because it's fairly short in length it would be easy, but that's what makes it tough, it's pretty much 100% effort from the gun! And that final hilly 4km run is a killer! That second run is the downfall of many people! Train and race smart all!

hi I'm doing the 2014 race and I take on board your comments about the hills. How hilly are they! eg if I run 4 min kms normally then would it add on 30 secs ? or more? I hate hills anyway...kinda was hoping it would be the bike that was hilly and not the run. oh well
