Huge weekend of racing

This weekend see's a huge amount of racing, particularly with Great Britain in mind. From the picture on the right you can see it's Ironman Wales in Tenby on Sunday. This was always going to be a tough event, with a hilly bike course (poor road surface too) and slightly undulating run, but the weather we have in Wales at the moment is going to cause the competitors so many problems. The surf report is pretty bad to be honest, so don't be surprised if the swim is cut short or even cancelled. I know the organisers have a back up plan where they can move the swim to another beach in Tenby, but that will mean a split transition and other logistical problems for the organisers and racers. I really hope the weather settles down, I know a few people who are racing and wish them a safe race, it could be a long tough day for a lot of people.

Switching distances, it is the ITU Grand Final race in Beijing this weekend, which sees the best of the best race off for the World Championship title. Like last year, the ITU World Champion is crowned using a series of races rather than a one-off race. The mens race (on Saturday) sees the Brownlee bothers racing and both can claim the title if certain permutations go their way, which leads to Sundays race for the ladies where Helen Jenkins can win the World Champs (again) if she finishes on the podium. All of these guys have been racing so strong this year, mainly to qualify for London 2012, but this lead to all of them being genuine World Champion contenders in Beijing. I guess I'll have to get up extra early on Saturday and Sunday to watch these guys race, it's going to be an exciting finish to the ITU season!

EDIT: I nearly forgot the Ironman 70.3 World Champs in Las Vegas this weekend too! Not sure who's racing this one from a GB point of view, but good luck to all pro's and age groupers!
